SSL securing of TM1Web and Rest API
CUBEAC uses the Rest API to connect to TM1. Add HTTPPortNumber=8001 (or other available port number) and UseSSL=F and restart your TM1 model to enable it.
CUBEAC supports TM1 from version 10.2.2 FP2 onwards. For the best experience the latest fix pack / interim fixes are recommended.
To be able to access the TM1 model via Rest API both the adminserver (ports 5595 and 5598) and the TM1 model’s HTTPPortNumber (by default 8000) have to be open and accessible. See troubleshooting help section to see how to check firewall settings.
Either the adminhost is blocked by the firewall or it’s not a supported TM1 version (that’s running the adminhost service). For testing use URL: http://admihost:5895/api/v1/Servers If it returns any servers those should show up on the Login screen as well.
Could be firewall, unsupported TM1 version or inappropriate configuration. For testing use URL: http://server:8000/api/v1/$metadata (replace 8000 with HTTPPortnumber from tm1s.cfg ) or the button ‘TEST REST API SETUP’ on the login screen.
CUBEAC supports CAM based authentication. To login via CAM the CAM username (same as the Windows ID of the user, can be checked by running ‘cmd’ and entering ‘whoami’ there), the CAM password and the CAM Namespace (typically but not necessarily the Windows Domain) need to be provided. Seamless Single-sign-on might be available in the near future based on demand.
To access and use the CUBEAC software each user has to register and login to the application. To facilitate this Google or Linkedin based registration is possible next to email based signup.
A sample console is available on a demo environment based on the Planning Sample model bundled with IBM Cognos TM1. To access it use adminhost: cubeac.com, servername: planning sample, username: demo, password: apple.
A modern browser (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer version 10 and upwards, Safari) is required. Chrome is recommended.
CUBEAC is a browser based application. That means while the related files are served up from a central location (the cubeac.com website) but it is run locally in the browser. Thus it can access any TM1 server the user / browser can theoretically access. The CUBEAC.com website does not (most likely cannot due to corporate firewalls) access your internal environment including your TM1 server. It’s the locally run application that does that.
It’s possibly to integrate and reuse existing templates in CUBEAC. When adding a new entry use the hyperlink block to add a reference using the Web URL API of TM1. An example URL looks like:
http://localhost:9510/tm1web/UrlApi.jsp#Action=Open&Type=WebSheet&Workbook= Applications/Planning%20Sample/Management%20Reporting/Actual%20v%20Budget &AdminHost=localhost&TM1Server=Planning%20Sample
Replace the highlighted blocks with your own model’s specifics.
CUBEAC stores all the console entries and related data in the }CUBEAC Console v1 cube. In fact the cube can be edited directly and only needs a page refresh on the browser side to see the effect. A good practice is to use an spreadsheet connected to TM1 to rapidly prototype an admin console. It is possible to very quickly setup an admin console like this, e.g. by adding key processes with short descriptions and organising them according to admin tasks.
If you enter the wrong password an ‘Authorization required’ popup will show up. Do not enter your username and password here please. Just click cancel, refresh the login page and enter the right credentials. This behaviour is an issue with the underlying technologies (TM1 Rest API and web applications), unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about it for now.
For optimal experience use latest version of Chrome or Firefox. Internet Explorer is supported starting version 10.
We strongly believe in having a dicsussion with our customers on what kind of features and how should be implemented. Therefore we release features that are already usable, but if marked with Preview Feature expect them to change and improve substantially.
If you login to the demo environment and take the CUBEAC tour you’ll see that multiple consoles can be set up (e.g. for admins, to do Master Data maintenance, to manage a particular module like CAPEX, etc.). You can accomplish this via the CUBEAC user interface or from within IBM Cognos TM1 as well. Security is based on TM1 security, that is in this case Element Security on the }CUBEAC Console v1 dimension. Please contact your Administrator regarding the setup of that.
If you own SSL certificates for your TM1 servers TM1Web and Rest API communication security can be set up to utilise that. Please contact us for details if this is relevant in your environment.
